I am a Clinical Psychologist (VA License 0810004906, MD License 04919, PSYPACT licensed) and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and Sex Therapy Supervisor-in Training practicing in Fairfax, VA. I graduated summa cum laude from Connecticut College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. I then received a Ph.D. in Clinical and Community Psychology from The George Washington University. I completed my clinical internship at Bellevue Hospital (New York University Hospital) in New York City. In addition to my practice, I spent four years working as a psychologist at Chase Brexton Health Care in Baltimore/Columbia, MD. I have extensive experience working with adolescent to adult clients at all stages of life, diverse racial and ethnic groups, English- and Spanish-speaking individuals, couples and romantic groupings of varying sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as families of all kinds. I am also certified by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists as a Certified Sex Therapist and a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.
I have found that the greatest success results from a combination of insight and behavior change. My training has led me to practice as both a generalist and a sex therapist in an integrative manner, drawing from a cognitive-behavioral framework to generate change based upon a deeper understanding using psychodynamic concepts, interpersonal techniques, and a focus on attachment. My work with couples is based in Emotionally Focused Therapy and the more behavioral approaches of sex therapy. As a supervisor, I believe in offering education and empirical resources as well as a focus on the human aspects of being a therapist and a supervisor. I’m currently a supervisor-in-training for licensed professionals interested in becoming AASECT certified sex therapists. Of course I am happy to explain this in more depth during the initial consultation.
I have been lauded by colleagues, clients, and supervisees alike for my genuine sense of caring for my clients, investment in your success, the importance and centering of social justice in my work, and the creative application of therapeutic techniques to diverse sets of struggles. I love tea and cardigans of all kinds (occupational hazards), and think a little humor goes a long way!
